26 Week Survey

Last weeks photo.

How far along? 26 Weeks!

Total weight gain/loss: 13-14 lbs... Which I'm pretty sure is mostly in my ass.

Maternity clothes? I bought a ton last weekend. I still feel like I need to grow into some. I found that I REALLY, really dislike rouched side shirts.

Stretch marks? No sign in sight!

Sleep: What is that again?

Best moment this week: We painted the nursery! I also, finally, switched doctors. Actually, I switched to a midwive. I couldn't be more happy/excited!

Movement: I swear all this girl does is party.

Food cravings: Still always want fruit.

Gender: GIRL :D

Labor Signs: Tons of Braxton Hicks!

Belly Button in or out? Half in, half out... Yea, it looks funny.

Wedding rings on or off? On. I haven't swelled up at all... Yet.

What I miss: Being able to control my weight. Oh, and beer.

What I am looking forward to: Putting more of the nursery together and finishing our cabinets in the kitchen. The things that make me happy :)

Weekly Wisdom: The more I work out = the more energy I have = the better I feel.

Milestones: I officially need help to get off the ground, or a push to get off the couch. Ugh.

Please excuse my lazy 26 week photo. I forgot I didn't take one today and we just got back from taking our pups for a walk.

By the way, my belly has felt HUGE all day! I was told there was a itty, bitty girl in there... but now, I'm not so sure ;)

Foodie Tuesday: Spinach Stuffed Shells

Introducing "Foodie Tuesday!" Every Tuesday I am going to blog about a recipe we recently tried or one of our favorites. I am lucky to have a husband who likes to cook and try new things. We are always testing out new recipes, tweaking them to fit our "needs", and creating our own (so much fun).

Keep in mind that all the recipes I post are going to be in the healthiest form I could possibly get them into. Unhealthy meals in our house is almost non-existent. We try to cook with as many organic ingredients that we could get our hands onto, especially fresh produce (SO important). We stay away from GMO's, a lot sodium, butter, and pretty much anything artificial. If you were to go grocery shopping with us, you wouldn't see much packaged food. Buying food in the whole most form possible is so important to me. This way, I know what we are putting into our bodies, and most importantly, what our sweet little baby is eating :)

A recipe we tried last night was kind of out of the ordinary. We NEVER eat pasta, or cook with dairy. But we did both last night (we will call it a treat). Whenever making pasta, try to buy whole wheat or even pasta made completely from vegetables.

The website I got the recipe from: http://www.skinnytaste.com/2009/01/spinach-stuffed-shells-with-meat-sauce.html?m=1

Spinach Stuffed Shells with Meat Sauce
Skinnytaste.com
Servings: 9 • Serving size: 3 stuffed shells • OldPoints: 7 pts • Points+: 9 pts
Calories: 360.9 • Fat: 12.8 g • Protein: 28.4 g • Carb: 34.3 g • Fiber: 3.3 g

Ingredients:
  • 27 (9 oz) Barilla Jumbo Shells
  • 1 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 1 lb 99% lean ground turkey
  • 32 oz crushed tomatoes (I used Tuttorosso)
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh basil
  • salt and pepper
  • 2 cups part skim ricotta cheese
  • 8 oz reduced fat mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 egg
  • 16 oz package frozen spinach, thawed and squeezed well
  • 1/4 cup Parmigiano Reggiano

Directions:

Boil water and cook shells according to package directions, make sure to make them al dente.

Meanwhile, saute onions and garlic in oil. Add turkey and salt and brown until cooked, breaking up in small pieces. Add tomatoes, salt, pepper and basil, then simmer on low, covered, about 15 minutes.

Preheat oven to 375°.
In a large bowl, mix together ricotta, egg, spinach, mozzarella, and parmesan.

Once shells are cooked and cool, fill each shell with (about 2 heaping tbsp) cheese mixture and place on a large baking dish, or two smaller dishes, covering the bottom of the dish with a little sauce.

Top shells with half of the sauce, cover with foil and bake 40 minutes; uncover foil and bake 5 more minutes.
Serve with additional sauce on top.

This recipe was absolutely delicious! We did, however, cut down the salt and used Veggie Shredz for the mozzarella. This is something we would definitely make again, but would add more veggies (mushrooms, more spinach and less cheese mixture, and red peppers). I wouldn't even mind cutting out the turkey burger and making it a vegetarian dish! This also makes a ton. We could have fed a family of 8, no problem.

Not as pretty of a picture as the website... I need to work on taking pictures of my food :)

6 Month Update

Six months came, gone and I'm sure it isn't going to slow down. So, although we are extremely busy (between work, house updates, and preparing for our little), I am trying to enjoy this belly as much as I can! Even though I am extremely anxious to meet her, I know, without a doubt, I will miss the bump when it's gone. SLOW DOWN, life.
We had our 24 week ultrasound to check back up on the previous little problems we were having. I am happy to say that my placenta is moving, slowly but surely. It hasn't moved nearly enough to be able to avoid a Caesarian Section, but my doctor is very confident that by week 32 it will be far enough away from my cervix.  Until then, it just means more ultrasounds and more times we get to see baby girl :)
One thing I found surprising was the fact that she is only measuring in the 27th percentile! With my husband weighing in at almost 12 pounds right out the the womb, I was certain I was going to have a chunky baby.

Tummy is starting to feel real tight! I know it is only going to get bigger, much bigger... But I don't know how!

That's all for now! Just wanted to write a quick post before my pregnancy brain kicked in and made me forget everything :)

SEX (of baby) & 23 Weeks

First off, we are having a GIRL!! I am so giddy about it it's ridiculous. Knowing the sex of the little human that is growing inside me has seriously helped me feel a huge connection towards her. The feeling of it actually being real, and being able to say "her" has me so excited!!

The day after Derrick's birthday is when we found out. I felt REALLY bad that I first talked Derrick into not finding out the sex and then after he got on board, I changed my mind. So I wanted to make it extra special and find out in celebration of his 27th birthday. We dropped the sealed envelope off at our favorite cupcakery, The Union General in Clarkston. They made us super delicious gender reveal cupcakes that we got to bite into with our family (most of them). Even though I know I had a terrible reaction, it was so cool to find out with people you love!

How far along? 23 weeks 3 days

Total weight gain/loss: 9 lbs

Maternity clothes? It's starting to get harder to button my jeans, but maternity jeans are too big around the waist. My shirts are also starting to get shorter and shorter. Only a matter of time now....

Stretch marks? no no no

Sleep: The bigger this belly gets = the harder it is to sleep :/ and sciatia doesn't help!

Best moment this week: Getting a ton of baby girl clothes from my mom (super cute)!! We also got to see her at a 3D ultrasound which was so amazing. So unreal. Made me so in love.

Movement: Lots of movement. I love it that whenever I poke my belly, she kicks back. Derrick says it's mean to poke her, but I think of it as a communication form :)

Food cravings: Fruit, Fruit, Fruit

Gender: GIRL :D

Labor Signs: Braxton Hicks has started!

Belly Button in or out? Surely making its way out..

Wedding rings on or off? On.. Well one.
I almost completely busted 1, so that's getting fixed.

What I miss: Beer... still. And having energy.

What I am looking forward to: Finishing the nursery! And Christmas (haha, did I just say that?!)

Weekly Wisdom: Crying over food is perfectly okay :)

Milestones: Found out the sex of our baby and now people are noticing I'm actually pregnant (and not just fat), hooray!

And a picture from last week...

And here's our beautiful baby girl from our amazing 3D ultrasound experience:

Love, love, love :)
